About Us

The Rangiora Nursery School is a preschool that has been educating children from ages three to five in North Canterbury since 1938.

We are community based and non-profit; meaning all funds raised are reinvested into the Nursery School.

Our play areas are well resourced, and we have a large outdoor area and a spacious indoor play area.

Our experienced and caring staff are all fully registered and we have higher than Ministry regulation adult to child ratio.

We value family involvement and participation, and have an open-door policy. We also have a unique relationship with Rangiora High School, with reciprocal learning opportunities between the two schools.

The school is also part of the 20 hours ECE programme.

Come and visit us to see what Rangiora Nursery School is all about; we would love to see you!

Our Staff

Viv Cumming, Head Teacher/Centre Manager

Qualifications - Diploma of Teaching in Early Childhood Education

I believe that children learn through responsive and reciprocal relationships with people, places and things. Children learn and discover through their natural curiosity and inquiry with the natural world around them. As Teachers it is our role to encourage their sense of self-esteem, so they become confident and competent learners.

Simone Antoniuk, Assistant Head Teacher

Qualifications - Bachelor of Teaching & Learning in Early Childhood Education and has recently completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Leadership in ECE

I have been teaching in Early Childhood education since 2006. I believe in a free play philosophy and child directed learning and love to watch children develop at their own rates into capable and confident little learners. I believe in the importance of developing strong reciprocal relationships with the tamariki, whanau and community within which we live.

Paula Stewart, Teacher

Qualifications - Diploma of Teaching in Early Childhood Education

I have been teaching at Nursery School for over 10 years! I believe it is important to build positive relationships with the Tamariki and whanau in a nurturing and fun environment where the children get many learning opportunities to be confident and capable learners.

Nikki Watherston, Teacher

Qualifications - Diploma of Teaching in Early Childhood Education

I love teaching at Nursery School, my two adult children came here, and I have been teaching here for 20 years. I have taught in Kindergartens prior to coming to this amazing well-resourced community centre. As I play several musical instruments a real focus of my teaching is weaving music and movement throughout the children’s learning experiences. I love the positive reciprocal relationships within the Nursery School Community.

Sue Clifton, Support Teacher

I have been working in a preschool environment for over 10 years and have been part of the Nursery School Team since 2011. I really love building relationships with all the children and families.

Natasha Annan, Support Teacher

I have loved being part of this amazing centre since early 2015 – I look forward to meeting your child and your whanau as we grow & learn on our Nursery School journey.

Jeanine Mackenzie, Office Administrator

I joined Nursery School in early 2015 as the Office Administrator – prior to this I worked as an Accounts/Office Manager for 15 years within North Canterbury. It is a privilege to work with such an amazing team of ladies and getting to know all the wonderful children and families.
